Eighty-one-year-old Helen Holland was struck by a motorcycle that was part of a UK royal's police escort on May 10. The motorcycle was escorting Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, while in London. Holland was in the hospital for around two weeks, but unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries.
Holland sustained severe injuries after the accident, including "multiple broken bones and massive internal injuries." She was thrown 40 feet across the road upon being struck.
A statement from Buckingham Palace shared that Sophie is "deeply saddened" by the news: "Her Royal Highness's deepest condolences and sympathies go to all of Ms Holland's family."
