When a crisis arises, you never know how you’re going to react or what obstacles might get in your way when you’re trying to find your way out of a dangerous situation, especially if there are individuals who are purposely trying to put you in harm’s way.
A resident in Elkton, Maryland, found herself in a life-threatening situation when her residence was engulfed in flames and she was trapped in the basement with no way to get out.
According to WMAR 2 News Baltimore, 52-year-old Brenda Holbrook was “trapped” in the basement of a Cherry Lane home that had caught fire “before a pair of men pulled her from a window.”
The news outlet reports that Holbrook’s sister, Pat Bernal, noted that someone “had tossed a trash can on the stairs,” which blocked her sister’s way out from the basement. Bernal told the news outlet that the fire was getting so close it “singed” her sister’s hair.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office investigation quickly led to another resident of the building, 47-year-old, Gail Metwally. Investigators discovered that the individual who made the 911 call noted to emergency services that the suspect set “multiple” fires inside the house and then “proceeded to sit on a lawn chair and watch” the fire spread.
