In 1991, four-year-old Sun Bin was abducted by child traffickers in a vegetable market in China. His parents were devastated and put their lives on hold to find him. They posted missing child posters everywhere and his mother traveled to nearby cities and provinces to look for him. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer in 1996 and died in 2011.
“To find our son had been my wife's biggest wish in life," Sun Youhong, Sun Bin’s father, told Xinhua, a Chinese news source. "And days before she passed away she was constantly murmuring our son's name."
The demand for healthy babies from potential adoptive parents is so great in China that child trafficking has become quite a lucrative business. Baby boys are especially valued since they carry the family name. In fact, Chinese police recently rescued 37 newborn babies after a trafficking ring bust. Each of these babies had a $13,000 price tag.
This is precisely what happened to Sun Bin, who'd had a feeling that his parents weren’t biological but was always afraid to ask. In October 2014, at the age of 28, the desire to find out whether or not they were truly his parents became so great that he left a DNA sample at his local police station.
Soon after, he received a phone call: A match had been found. As it turns out, his adoptive parents had purchased him from a child trafficking ring.
Just four years after her passing, Sun Bin’s mother’s dream of him reuniting with his biological family finally came true.
On January 13, 2015, after 24 years, Sun Bin fell to his knees in tears as he was finally reunited with his father. He also met a younger sister — who he never knew existed!
The tearful moment was captured in a series of heartbreaking photos, which can be seen in the video below.
