Sometimes the utter passion and drive that propels you forward to achieve your dreams can be the strongest fuel there is.
Eduardo Rafael Juárez Hernández had always dreamed of becoming an engineer, but due to a life of poverty, he was forced to work on the streets in Tarímbaro, Mexico, with his mother, Yolanda Hernández, and his younger sister. The three sold sweets on the streets in order to earn money for necessities.
Eduardo was only 12 years old, but despite his young age, he knew that his family needed him to pitch in and help bring in money. His family stayed in a small, rundown dwelling, but he never let his family’s bad fortune dissuade him from pursuing his dream.
Even during harsh weather conditions, Eduardo was often seen reading, studying, and doing his homework on the hard pavement on busy city streets. His mother often worried about her children and wanted to give them a better life and the means to pursue higher education, but it seemed like their family was continually met with tough financial struggles.
One day, a photo of Eduardo working on his studies on a public sidewalk hit social media and garnered quite a bit of attention. People were so impressed by this young man’s dedication to his education that it didn’t take long before someone stepped in to help.
