The story you are about to experience is one of resilience, hope, and true, enduring love. It is the story of Edward and Linda Hart, a couple that has endured the devastating effects of a rare condition known as neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form over nerve tissue.
"I spotted her and said, that's it. Prettiest thing I ever seen sitting up there," said Edward in the video below, recalling the moment he met his beloved Linda.
The couple, who reside in Puxico, Missouri, married in 1969 after it was love at first sight.
But following the birth of their three children, one of Linda's nightmares became a reality. Bumps had begun to form across her body, reminded her of the same condition her mom had: neurofibromatosis.
If she had inherited it, then soon, non-cancerous tumors would completely cover her body.
They went to a neurosurgeon for help. The doctor not only confirmed that Linda had neurofibromatosis, he also dropped another bombshell.
"One of these little tumors was in the water space of the brain," said Dr. Joel Ray. "She couldn't walk anymore, she couldn't think anymore. It causes a form of dementia and loss of function, and at the same time she's being disfigured by the disease."
"There was a time she couldn't look at the clock and tell me the time," Edward recalled.
But Dr. Ray was able to perform a life-altering procedure that relieved the pressure the tumor had on her brain.
Linda was able to walk again. Her memory was getting better.
"You walk in the room and it's not the same person; it's emotional," said Dr. Ray, holding back tears.
Indeed, the couple was able to persevere, and are now looking forward to the next chapter in their lives.
