Hilaria Baldwin probably wasn't expecting the backlash she received after posting a photo of her and her 10-year-old daughter. In the photo, the two pose for a mirror selfie.
"Date night with my first baby…she did both our makeup. How quickly they get big and how amazing it is to get to be inspired by them," the caption read. "Carmen, you are such a special soul…just like your siblings…all unique and equally incredible. Met you today, 13 years ago, @alecbaldwininsta …what a journey we have made …ps edit from Carmen and me here for the birthday wishes we are reading in comments: it’s not her bday …it’s the day I met Alec. ❤️ you all."
Instantly, some fans took to the comments to voice their disapproval.
One person wrote: “Why do these celebrities make their children look so grown. Why all that make up??”
“I feel the same way," another commented. "Makeup, accessories, nails. They don't get the time to be kids.”
More negative comments shaming Hilaria's choice to let her daughter wear makeup came rolling in.
“Beautiful," someone started off supportively. "But as the mother of two daughters…too young for the makeup/grown up look.”
Another person shamed her for always capturing moments on her phone. The commenter wrote: "Why dont you have private moments with your children ? Happiness does not need to be [shared].”

While some questioned and criticized Hilaria as a mother, others jumped to her defense.
"All these comments about wearing makeup," one user noted. "She is having a fun time with her mummy and what a great way to do it. My daughter and I used to do each others make up it's a great way to bond , especially with the eldest in a big family. Please be kind ."
Another defended Hilaria: "Everyone with the 'she’s too young for makeup'. Kids express themselves in different ways, she enjoys the art of makeup, she’s practicing with her mom and on herself. Who cares ? She’s not hurting anyone. Nobody’s forcing her to do it. Let the girl do what makes her happy I mean [expletive] ."
The mother of seven also defended herself via her Instagram story, saying that she always allows Carmen to play around with makeup. She even recalled a time when her preteen was 3 years old and managed to get ahold of one of her blue lipsticks, painting her entire face blue like a Smurf. “And I was like go for it, it’s art,” she said.
She then went on to compliment her daughter for perfecting her skills, saying that she's “getting so much better.” And other users pointed out that 10 years old is a normal age to play with makeup.
"I remember having 'make up sessions' with my mum when I was this age," one fan noted. "Precious memories and lessons you keep with you forever ❤."
