James Vines served in the US military for over 20 years, participating in several tours in Iraq. When he came home, he wanted to work on a special project for himself and his family.
He began fixing up his backyard, but his efforts were short-lived.
The veteran suddenly got sick while working on his backyard and had to leave his hopes of landscaping behind — until a group of strangers turned his dream into a reality.
In the video below, posted on April 10, 2017, James and his wife, Stephanie, are approached by a small group of people holding a white sign with a red bow across the front.
The sign has James' name on it, and Stephanie soon reveals why.
The loving wife explains that she entered James into a contest for veterans where the grand prize was a free landscaping makeover. She says that she and James are, "Overwhelmed with so much joy! Never in a million years would I have thought. You know, I saw this online and on HGTV, and I was just like, 'You know what, Jim deserves this. Let me go on and nominate him and just give it a shot.'" She adds, "He's been through a lot. I think he's very deserving of this."
The team from Landscaping For Vets awards James with his backyard landscaping makeover and discusses what the final result will look like. Thanks to this heartwarming surprise, the brave veteran and his family can plan for their future.
