A royal insider has claimed that Meghan Markle sent a handwritten letter to request a formal one-on-one meeting with her father-in-law, King Charles. Should it happen, the meeting will take place before Meghan and Harry return to California.
Neil Sean describes the meeting as "an opportunity to clear the air, pull the rights from wrongs and explain some of the rationale behind what they’ve been doing over the last two years."
It's unclear if Charles has approved the meeting, or if the meeting has transpired at all. Neil also commented, "That’s right — Meghan one-to-one with King Charles. You heard correct. It’s a very brave move from Meghan herself."
The news comes a day after a funeral that was described as "deeply human" by attendee Lesley Garven. Lesley told People that the atmosphere was emotional, explaining, "They were flushed. You could see that William and Harry and King Charles were deeply affected. Really deeply emotionally affected by the whole thing, and that really touched me."
Lesley added, "They were obviously holding it together, but when you are so close to somebody you can really feel it and see it, and I think that was probably quite … it was human. It was real human feelings."
"Being in there was quite up close and personal and intimate. And it was that whole feeling of, 'This is somebody's mother and grandmother.' Below the pageantry, you could really feel it. The real, raw feelings of people."
Meghan was photographed crying at the funeral on Monday, September 19, 2022. The Countess of Wessex was spotted comforting Meghan as the former actress and mom of two covered her face with her hand.
Meghan and Queen Elizabeth nearly immediately took to one another when they were introduced. In 2018, a source told Us Weekly that the queen made it easy to get along. They said. "[Her Majesty] has a brilliant sense of humor. That’s one of the first things that brought her and Meghan closer. It’s that warm side of her that has made Meghan feel so at ease."
Meghan and King Charles also hit it off after their first meeting. A source told Us Weekly that after they met in 2016, "It went really well. Everyone loved Meghan."
However, there were rumblings that Charles was displeased with Meghan ahead of her 2018 wedding to Harry, and that he privately encouraged her to make peace with her estranged father. By the time Meghan and Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020, the relationship between Meghan and Charles had reportedly further deteriorated.
Charles met Meghan and Harry's youngest child, Lilibet, in person for the first time in June 2022 at what a source described as an "emotional" meeting. The source added, "It was fantastic to see them. It was wonderful to have them back in Britain."
