After years of trying to conceive, Courtney and Philip Garrett were both stunned and thrilled to learn they were pregnant with triplets.
The couple from New Orleans transferred two eggs via in vitro fertilization (IVF). One of those eggs split, producing a pair of identical twins and their fraternal sister.
Seven years later, Courtney and Philip decided to give the triplets one more sibling, so they set off on their new journey toward pregnancy.
Courtney got pregnant again — and with another set of triplets!
According to kidspot.com, "About one in 9,000 pregnancies results in triplets, but the chance of an embryo splitting and resulting in a multiple birth increases with fertility treatment. When this happens the siblings are identical because they have all come from the same egg. But remarkably, in Courtney's case they are not — meaning she must have fallen pregnant naturally around the same time as conceiving via IVF.
Philip says their doctor "turned white" when she realized the bizarre twist of fate that had occurred.

As it turned out, these triplets were conceived both naturally and artificially in the same month. The ultrasound left Courtney, Philip, and their medical team completely baffled.
