When something completely unexpected happens during a moment in your life when your stress levels are already at an all-time high, there’s likely a point where you stop and wonder why this is all happening.
This video shared by Wonderbot on YouTube tells the tragic story of Arlena, the 9-year-old daughter of Ernest and Regina Twigg, and how it was discovered she was not their biological child after a blood test prior to critical surgery.
Arlena Twigg was born at the Hardee Memorial Hospital in Wauchula, Florida, in 1978. At birth, she was diagnosed with heart disease, and doctors feared that she wouldn’t have the chance to live a long and healthy life.
Tragically, right before her 10th birthday, Arlena underwent open-heart surgery due to her ongoing health condition and died during the procedure.
In a chilling turn of events, Arlena’s doctor discovered that she was not the biological child of Ernest and Regina, as her blood type was incompatible with the couple’s genetic makeup.
Obviously, in a severe state of grief, Ernest and Regina decided that they needed answers. The couple started their investigation back at the hospital in which Regina had given birth in hopes of uncovering the truth.
It was discovered that there had been another woman in the hospital during that time period named Barbara Mays who had given birth to a baby girl two days prior to Regina. They came to the conclusion that someone had switched the babies in the hospital, and the Twiggs’ biological daughter was actually named Kimberly "Kim" Mays.
