School Tells Mom Her Teenage Daughter’s A Drug Addict, Only To Discover The Results Are Wrong

It’s in the nature of teenagers to argue with their mothers.

After all, the teen years are all about testing your parents’ boundaries, and separating from the family unit in preparation for a more independent life!

The end result is positive — and goodness knows that it’s all far preferable to the wacky tantrums of younger kids — but that doesn’t mean that the adolescent tension isn’t trying at times.

Parents of teens can be forgiven for occasionally reaching the end of their rope, and overreacting to whatever drama is currently sweeping through their teen’s life.

That’s why, every now and then, even parents with the best intentions in the world end up having to eat their words and apologize to their child..

That’s exactly what happened to one Alabama mom who believed that her high school daughter had tested positive for drugs, and, understandably, flipped a lid.

When the test results turned out to be a mistake? This contrite mama apologized in the funniest (and tastiest) way imaginable!

It all started four years ago, when a young woman named Rachel Gelmis was just a high school student.

Now an accomplished college student, her Facebook Timehop feature reminded her of a particularly memorable moment from her high school career: her first drug test.

At some point, her school required students to go through drug screening, an experience that was new to teen Gelmis.

Still, she wasn't worried, because she didn't use drugs and knew that her test would come back clean.

Unfortunately, despite her sunny outlook on the matter, not to mention her clean-living lifestyle, Gelmis' drug test did not come back with the results she expected.

In fact, according to her Facebook post at the time: "Last week I was drug tested at Pinnacle. This was the first time I had ever been drug tested, and I knew I was clean, of course. However, when the results came back, I was told that I had traces of THC, cocaine, heroin, meth, benzos, and barbiturates in my system."

Needless to say, she was pretty stupefied by the results, and knew that something must have gone wrong with the test.

Most basic drug tests are completed using a urine sample and basic drug kit. These kits can occasionally give inaccurate results, especially when compared with the more accurate blood and drug tests, but that didn't appear to be the case here.

Rather, it seemed that the school had gotten Gelmis' tests back, and accidentally interpreted them all wrong.

Gelmis knew that she was innocent as soon as the tests came back, but had a hard time convincing her mother that the test was all a terrible mistake; it was presumably a bit tricky for Mom to see past the test results when she just had a major parental fear seemingly confirmed.

Gelmis' post goes on to explain what happened:

"A few hours later, the school contacted my mom and told her that they had completely misread the test, and I was negative for all of these substances. So, as an apology, I had my dear, wonderful mother make me a cake. You are forgiven. The End."

The cake, orange with blue frosting, has now become an overnight viral sensations, spawning dozens of copycats, and even one stylish and sardonic t-shirt.

The cake, lovingly frosted by Gelmis' apologetic mom, reads simply, "Sorry we thought you did meth…& coke & pot & heroin," and is appended with a little sad face.

It's a heartfelt way to say sorry, and the simple and funny format of the apology has folks all over the internet collapsing in gales of laughter.

Gelmis, after spotting the Timehop note on her Facebook, decided to tweet out the hilarious memory to her 2,500 Twitter followers, where it quickly took off like wildfire.

When Gelmis noticed the attention her cake was receiving, she texted mom, asking, "Have you been on Facebook?" and then cautioning, "Ok don't freak out."

There is no word yet about whether or not Rachel Gelmis has plans to bake a cake for her mother that reads, "Sorry I made your apology cake go viral :("
