35 Years After Her Adoption, Woman Discovers Her Identical Twin

With about 7 billion people on our planet, chances are there is someone out there who looks, acts, or thinks pretty similar to each and every one of us.

As you can see in this viral video, the idea of a doppelganger, someone who is identical to you walking the planet, is nothing new, but the scariest part is that for some people it is a very possible reality.

It's difficult to imagine what kind of person would want to separate children but, unfortunately, this can sometimes happen when parents decide to put up their children for adoption. While it might be less common today, we learn in the following true story that it's not impossible to have a twin that you don't know exists.

In a clip from Canadian television show George Stoumboulopoulos Tonight, the host meets Paula Bernstein and Elyse Schein, two identical twin sisters who were separated in 1968 as babies for a study of the age-old psychology question about which matters more: nature or  nurture. Both Paula and Elyse grew up with remarkably similar lives. They both lived in New York, edited their high school newspapers, and even studied the same subject, film, in college. After Elyse's mother passed away, she started to look into her past and tried to find her birth mother. She learned that the woman who gave birth to her didn't want any kind of relationship… But that her identical twin sister just might.

The 36-year-old sisters quickly found each other, and soon after learned of the twisted social experiment. They went on to write a book together about their unique experience. Even though their story is so rare, it really makes you wonder about who else is out there with a story waiting to be told.
