A gorilla may not be the typical patient for Dr. Dawn Reeves, but her medical expertise helped save a newborn baby gorilla who was born at the San Diego Zoo.
The baby was born via a rare emergency Caesarian section operation, and an x-ray confirmed that the poor baby gorilla had a collapsed lung. So Dr. Reeves — along with a anesthesiologist and two vets — worked together to successfully re-inflate the baby's lung. The mother and baby are on the mend and doing well, under the watchful eyes of the zoo staff.
