Carrie Underwood’s New Song Is An Anthem For Hard-Working Moms And Americans

I don't usually expect much from today's popular music. At best it's something to dance to, at worst, the messages are questionable. However, when I saw Carrie Underwood's video for the new single, "Smoke Break," I knew I had to share it.

The song isn't just a great country rock song, it's about hard working moms and Americans. Although, I must say, her patriotism doesn't come as shock to me after I saw her belt out the national anthem like a pro.

The idea of a "smoke break" comes from the mother she describes who struggles to work three jobs to support her family. Amidst the stress of supporting her family, the mom could sure use a little smoke break.

"For the storyline, I really just wanted it to be mainly about strong women — strong beautiful women who are doing everything that the boys do," Underwood told ET. "And at the end, we all get together and have our break. Hardworking during the front-end of the video and having our break, our 'Smoke Break,' at the end of the video."

Here's a taste of the lyrics that get to the heart of what many mothers feel everyday:

“She’s a small-town, hard-working woman just trying to make a living
Working three jobs, feeding four little mouths in a run-down kitchen
It’s hard to be a good wife and a good mom and a good Christian”

“I kinda feel like everybody expects motherhood to completely change me as a writer and an artist. I feel like it just adds another wonderful dimension,” she said of how motherhood has inspired her.

Please SHARE if you agree with what Underwood is saying — that being the best you can be everyday is hard work, but well worth it.
