On July 26, 2017, Jordan Dinsmore arrived back at her apartment complex after working her shift at the local restaurant.
As the 20-year-old University of South Carolina student got out of her car, three men suddenly appeared, pointed a gun at her, and abducted her.
Jordan began screaming, but the men threatened to shoot her. They forced her into the back seat of her 2009 Scion as they attempted to drive to the ATM, so they could rob her.
But Jordan's vehicle was a stick shift, and her abductors didn't know how to operate it.
The armed men made Jordan get in the driver's seat. She went to the nearby ATM and withdrew $300. During the ride, she overheard one of the men talking about sexually assaulting her at his "auntie's" house.
Frantic and terrified, Jordan thought of her mom, Beth Turner, who once had a similar terrifying experience. Beth had nearly been sexually assaulted in college, but she fought the man off and escaped.
Beth taught Jordan to never let an attacker take her to a second location; that’s typically where the threat becomes more serious.
I'm going to be strong like my mom, Jordan thought to herself. I’m going to get myself out of this.
Remembering her mom's advice, Jordan left her seat belt unbuckled when she got back into the car. She waited for the right opportunity, threw her car into neutral, opened the driver's side door, and leapt out at 30 to 40 mph.

Since her kidnappers couldn't figure out how to drive her car, they fled.
