The love of a mother transcends species: whether human or animal, moms everywhere would do anything to keep their babies safe, even if it means putting themselves in danger.
There are so many examples of heroic moms of all kinds. For example, one mother lost both of her legs after shielding her kids from a tornado. And how about this mama cow who would not leave her baby's side, even when the injured calf was whisked away by humans? Mothers are simply incredible beings!
We tend to overlook animals like rats and mice because of the associations we make and how we perceive them, but their maternal instinct isn't that different from other species. And if you're still skeptical, just take a look at this shocking footage below.
In this short clip, it looks like a rat is picking a fight with a snake more than twice her size — and the snake seems preoccupied with what's in his mouth. If you take a closer look, you can make out the mother rat's baby in the snake's mouth. The desperate mom is trying everything to make the snake let him go, like biting him.
The snake eventually lets the baby go, and it seems like all hope is lost. Mom continues to chase the snake away, and if you watch closely, you can see the little one move an inch or two. He seems just fine! Mom even picks him up and strolls away.
