Outspoken magician, Penn Jillette once said “Bacon is so good by itself that to put it in any other food is an admission of failure. You're basically saying, 'I can't make this other food taste good, so I'll throw in bacon.' ”
And I have to admit, for the most part I agree. But that’s just for the most part.
See, I have a theory:
I wholeheartedly believe that when you pair the heavenly deliciousness of bacon with something equally tasty — like pie — you can create something so delectable that it will blow your mind.
Well, that’s why here at LittleThings we decided to experiment. Could we combine the two and successfully create a new and delicious desert? We didn’t know but we were happy to try. The scientific research (aka the recipe) is below along with our conclusive results and believe me, everything will totally blow your mind (and tummy)…
Our entire office loved this recipe. We couldn't get enough of it — really!

For this recipe, I needed four apples (green apples work well, too), brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, muffin tin, oil (or cooking spray), butter, and bacon.
First thing I did was flip over the muffin tin to grease it. I used vegetable oil, so I dabbed it on a paper towel and rubbed it on the muffin tin for less mess, but cooking spray would be the easiest option for this.
Next, I took a piece of bacon, broke it in two, and crisscrossed it over the top of each cylinder.
Then I secured the crisscrossed pieces by wrapping one piece of bacon around them on the outside of the cylinder.
The end result should look like this, with two pieces of bacon completely covering each cylinder on the muffin tin.
Then I popped it in the oven for 20–30 minutes (depending on your oven) at 400 °F. I’d say let it bake for a good 20 minutes and check on it.
While the bacon was cooking, I peeled my four apples.
Once peeled, I chopped them into small cubes.
Then I put them in a mixing bowl and added 2/3 cups of brown sugar and a 1 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon.
I added 2 tsp. of vanilla extract.
Finally I melted half a stick of butter and poured it into the bowl.
Then I mixed it all together.
I then put the mixture into a baking dish.
Then I took out my bacon and put my apple mixture in the oven at 350 °F for about 20 minutes.
While the apple mixture baked, I let the bacon cool for about 5–10 minutes.
Once they were cool, I took each one off, creating six perfectly formed bacon cups.
Aren’t they pretty?
Once the apple mixture was done baking, I let it cool for about a minute or two.
Then I placed a couple of spoonfuls of the apple mixture into each bacon cup.
The end result is mini-apple pies with a bacon crust! I also topped off each pie with a dollop of Cool Whip.
My conclusion, however? Taste-wise, it was delicious!
Our editor, Todd, couldn't believe how great they were!
