As an outsider, it is so easy to pass judgment on another mother. Everyone is a backseat parent. Many actively try to fight this, but every now and then it creeps out. One social media star, who also happens to be a mom, just experienced this and took to TikTok to have others weigh in.
Kat Stickler was at the park with her 3-year-old daughter, Mary-Katherine, also known as MK. The only other children playing that day were having a birthday party. MK quickly made friends with the other kids and felt like one of them. When it came time for cake, the mother throwing the party kicked MK out, even though there was plenty of cake to go around, which Kat took issue with.
Kat shared her experience on both Instagram and TikTok in the hopes of having others weigh in on whether or not she was being entitled. She captioned her posts: “no cake for me thanks, I’m full…of rage .” She then strapped in and began her story.
“I’m going to mom shame. The only people I’ve ever mom shamed are myself and my own mother. But one other mother is going to be added to the list," Kat began. She was not messing around.

Kat explains, “it was literally just us and this birthday group” at the park. She thought it was cute that her daughter made friends. They were all playing together nicely for around a half an hour. That’s when it became time to sing "Happy Birthday."
Kat thought everything was going well. “I thought they were welcoming her with open arms,” she stated. She assumed MK would continue to be welcomed and even made herself available to the other mom to check in with. This is where things took an interesting turn.
MK assumed she would get cake as well, so she grabbed herself a piece. “So I, like, walk over to make sure it’s OK — as a formality. Honestly, I was like, obviously it’s OK. It’s cake. It’s a massive cake. There’s lots of leftover pieces,” Kate goes on to explain.
Apparently, the mom of the birthday child did not think MK was welcome. “The mother takes the plate away from MK, and gets down to her level and says, ‘You can not eat this cake, OK? This is not your birthday party. These are not your friends. Where’s your mother?’” Kat recalls.
This enraged Kat. “What the F? Am I entitled or was this messed up?” she asked. The keyboard warriors in the comments section were divided on the situation.
“The way my jaw dropped when she said 'these are not your friends' TO A CHILD,” wrote one user.
Another user disagreed: “Although she went about it in the wrong way (we aren't hearing her side so who knows) I think Party Mom was right. As sweet as your daughter is, she wasn't invited and doesn't know those people. Also, coming on social media to complain about it seems not right to me.”
At the end of the day, all that matters is MK took it all in stride. She and Kat went to get their own cake and ice cream, so the problem was solved. “She was totally fine,” Kat recounted. “She was excited to go get ice cream with me!”
