Mom Loses $820K Insurance Claim After She Was Photographed Throwing A Christmas Tree

A woman's claims that she couldn't work or complete daily tasks due to injuries from a car accident became less believable after a photo showed her throwing a Christmas tree in a competition. Kamila Grabska, 36, won a Christmas tree throwing competition in 2018 after getting into a car accident in February 2017. She sued an insurance company for $820,000, claiming that her “disabling” injuries stopped her from working, playing with her children, doing chores, and lifting things, as per the Irish Independent newspaper.

Her claim was dismissed by an Irish court because she won the Christmas tree-throwing competition less than a year after the accident.

An image published in a newspaper that showed the mom of two throwing a Christmas tree made Judge Carmel Stewart believe Grabska's "claims were entirely exaggerated," as per The Guardian.

“It is a very large, natural Christmas tree and it is being thrown by her in a very agile movement,” the judge said, according to The Guardian.

When she sued the insurance company, Grabska claimed that she was unable to work for five years, Irish Independent reported. She said that being unable to work due to the accident impacted her financially.

Though Grabksa claimed that she struggled to get out of bed because of the injuries, photos and videos observed in court painted a different picture.

The court decided that Grabksa was being dishonest because of the photo from the tree-throwing contest and a video that showed her training her dog, per The Guardian.
