In the midst of flooding in South Carolina that's killed more than a dozen people, caused many to evacuate, and left damages worth billions of dollars, one weatherman got emotional live on air after seeing the sun.
Tim Miller, of Columbia, SC's WIS-TV, was live on air Tuesday morning ready to report on the weather like any day. But, once he caught a glimpse of some sun shining over the city's downtown area for the first time in days, he started choking up, much like the news anchor who broke down during an unexpected reunion.
"I don't know what to say," he said as he stepped away from the set for a moment. "Sunshine. That's amazing."
Miller, who asked the audience to forgive him, held back his tears as he continued with the forecast. But he didn't need to apologize; residents were touched by his emotional response.
"I think it's okay to show ones humanity on air. It allows others to see that they are not alone in their emotions. We love our state and we love Tim Miller!" one user commented on the news station's Facebook page.
Still, Miller, a longtime South Carolina resident, explained the reason for his tears.
"I just lost it," he said. "It was because all that's going on. I know the people who are suffering. I know people who live on roads that are now gone. I see these people in the grocery store. I care about this community."
