Now that we realize how harmful plastic straws are for the environment, it's time to jump on the reusable silicone straw train.
Food52’s new home products line, Five Two , is focused on refining and perfecting everyday staples, and its 10-pack of reusable, BPA- and BPS-free silicone straws are everything I have ever wanted in a straw.
As someone who uses a straw to drink everything, I was an early adopter of the reusable straw trend, and I have a drawer full of silicone, plastic, metal, and glass straws to prove it. These particular silicone straws seem to make their way to the top of the pile more often than not. They are a great size, are big enough to mainline iced coffee but narrow enough to fit in a soda can, and fit nicely in the dishwasher — and let’s be honest, the color palette is a millennial dream.
The squeegee cleaner is objectively the best way to clean straws (before this I bought one brand of straws solely for the squeegee to use with my other straws), and while I can’t exactly say I’ll ever add the carrying case to my key ring, the "fold and stuff" method of travel is probably the most user-friendly. I nabbed the light pink case, squeegee, and straw as soon as I opened the (recyclable) box, and it brings me great joy to whip it out of my purse in a coffee shop. The other carrying cases went straight in the suitcase, for future travel.
If you’re cutting out single-use plastic, this is the reusable straw to buy. At $25 for the whole shebang, I will be gifting this to literally everyone I know for the foreseeable future. You’re welcome.
