Officials in Alabama say that at least four people have died from trying to complete a TikTok challenge that involves jumping off of a moving boat. Experts say that the trend is extremely dangerous, and there is no safe way to attempt the challenge, even with a life jacket.
"Hitting the water from a moving boat is like hitting concrete from jumping multiple stories stories up," said Gail Kulp, executive director of the Sea Tow Foundation.
Today reports that people have been posting videos jumping off boats for several years, but the trend is becoming more popular, especially in summer.
"The four that we responded to when they jumped out of the boat, they literally broke their neck and, you know, basically an instant death," said Capt. Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad.
Dennis told WBMA that he's worried about the trend becoming more popular, and he emphasized that it's not worth trying.
"That is a very big concern because we have seen this pattern emerge over the last two years and it’s sporadic," he said. "But it’s something that needs to go away and stay away."
Dennis also said that all four victims were men.

He said the incidents were easily avoidable — by not partaking in the challenge.
"Do not do it," he said. "It's not worth your life."
