It's apparent that not many people read the newspaper much these days, especially Gen Z. So it comes as a surprise that many are tapping into watching videos of one TikToker reading full newspaper articles out loud.
Kelsey Russell has her followers intrigued by the news, and her platform is being used to encourage people, especially young people, to get more hip to the news and what is going on in the world. With over 85,000 followers, she talks in depth about articles she finds interesting.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Kelsey shared that the goal of her account is to get Gen Z enthusiastic about print news in order to increase media literacy. "The newspaper is drama. That's why I want Gen Z to read it. It's literally gossip, and you know we love the gossip."
In her videos, she reads from both newspapers and magazines. She even gives updates on major events happening in the world.

Her followers appear to be really hooked.
"All of us in journalism trying to figure out how to get people to care about news and she just saved journalism in like a 30 second video," one person wrote.
"The newspaper is such a slay, like the DRAMA of closing a paper is equal to closing a flip phone," another person said. "Also you learn things but omg the drama!!!"
