With Valentine's Day right around the corner, love is in the air. So why not sweeten the day with a scrumptious dessert.
For most of us, the way to the heart is through the stomach, which is why I absolutely love the idea of making tasty treats that will satisfy every sweet tooth. This year, I've decided to ditch the chocolate and make mini heart-shaped cherry pies instead. These cute pies are the perfect way to show someone how much you love them.
Whether you're baking for your sweetheart, taking treats to the classroom, or making goodies for family and friends, this Valentine's Day dessert recipe is sure to please and is just one extra-special way to say "I love you."
They are as delicious as they are darling — and they're incredibly easy to make, too. Now let's start cooking!
1. Gather all your ingredients.
What you need:
Ingredients:
- Pillsbury® Refrigerated Pie Crust (contains 2 [9-inch] crusts per box)
- 1/2 cup cherry pie filling
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Domino® confectioners sugar
2. Roll out the first pie crust on a well-floured surface.
3. With a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut hearts from the crust.
I was able to get eight hearts per crust, which yields four small pies.
4. Places the hearts aside. Then, roll out the second crust and begin making more hearts using the cookie cutter.
After cutting both crusts, you should have 16 hearts total, enough to make eight individual pies.
5. Beat an egg in a small bowl to create an egg wash. Lightly brush over half (eight) of the hearts.
6. Place 1 tsp. of the cherry filling in the center of each heart.
*Note: I love using red cherry filling to stick with the traditional Valentine's Day colors, but you can also fill the pies with other flavors like strawberry or chocolate Nutella! Give your loved ones a flavor you know they'll enjoy.
7. Set the non-egg-washed hearts on top of the filling-topped hearts.
With your fingers, gently press the edges together.
8. Next, press around the edges of the hearts with a fork to seal.
Before putting them in the oven, brush the tops of the pies with the egg wash.
9. Place the hearts on baking sheets. Bake for 7 minutes or until golden.
10. Let cool for 10 minutes. Then, sprinkle a light dusting of Domino® confectioners sugar over the pies.
Serve and enjoy!
While these heart-shaped cherry pies are perfect for Valentine's Day, you can serve them all year long or bake them for a special date night.
