A 47-year-old woman who went to the hospital with stomach pain was surprised to find out that she was actually pregnant. Judy Brown, 47, went to Beverly Hospital in Beverly, Massachusetts, thinking that she might have a gallstone because she was dealing with severe abdominal pain. Her actual condition shocked her: she was going into labor, and gave birth to a baby girl an hour later.
Judy told ABC News that the possibility that she was pregnant hadn't really occurred to her due to her age and the fact that she had been with her husband for 22 years already without ever having a child.
Though it seems like it would be pretty hard to not realize that you were pregnant, Dr. Kimberly Gecsi told ABC News that it definitely can happen, even though it's not common.
"People don’t know sometimes or they’re in denial about it and denial can be pretty strong," she told the publication.
Judy was overwhelmed by the news at the time. "It was a little bit scary getting into the hospital thinking something was really bad was going on. To understand and take in that was I pregnant and was about to go into labor … it was very overwhelming," she told ABC News at the time.
She also told The Ada News that she hadn't experienced any symptoms that made her suspect that she could be pregnant — she didn't experience morning sickness, for example, and she did notice weight gain but thought it was just from aging.

Her husband thought that her stomach felt weird to the touch, and didn't seem like normal weight gain, but the two of them still dismissed it as just being "kind of weird" and moved on.
The baby, Carolyn Rose, was born healthy in 2015, weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces.
