If you have a cat, you probably find yourself wondering who is really the owner and who's the pet in your relationship. Cats are majestic, independent animals, and even though some of them are total cuddle bugs, many others prefer spending time alone to spending time with their humans. However, even though your cat might not seem affectionate, she might just be telling you she loves you in her own language!
Cats have a reputation for being snobbier than dogs, but in reality, many of them are even more affectionate than their canine counterparts. In fact, this cat literally took a bullet to save his little human friend! Most cats behave differently than dogs, though, so many pet owners believe that their cat isn't crazy about them because they don't show their love in the same way dogs do. However, cats show their affection in many ways — you just have to know what to look for!
Check out all the ways you can tell if your cat loves you, and be on the lookout for these actions from your own kitty! They probably like you a lot more than you might think. My cat does number 8 all the time, but I had no idea that it actually means he's happy to see me!

1. They Show You Their Belly

When a cat goes belly-up, they're in a very vulnerable position. If your cat decides to roll onto their back around you, that means they trust you enough to (literally) show you their soft side.
2. They Sleep on You

Sure, they might also be doing it because you're warm, but in many cases, your cat will sleep on top of you because they just enjoy being around you. If they choose your belly over sleeping on the computer or inside a box, you should definitely feel honored.
3. They Groom You

Cats groom each other as a symbol of their friendship. If your cat starts licking your hand (and you haven't handled any of their favorite foods lately), you can be sure that they see you as a beloved member of their furry family.
4. They Rub Up Against You

This cuddly behavior can actually mean that your cat is marking you as their own by putting their scent all over you. It's their own way of telling other cats, "This is my human!"
5. They Leave You 'Presents'

We may not appreciate it as much as they'd like us to, but when a cat leaves a dead reptile or rodent on your doorstep, you should take it as a gesture of love. Cats deliver their prey as gifts for their loved ones, and some experts have speculated that they might actually leave you dead rodents because they don't believe that we humans are capable of feeding ourselves.
6. They Chirp When They See You

You know that adorable chirping noise cats make when you bring out their favorite snacks? It basically means, "Yay!" in cat language. If your kitty often makes that noise when they see you, it means just the sight of you is enough to fill them with joy.
7. They Knead You

Kittens develop the behavior of kneading when they suckle milk from their mothers, and they usually retain that behavior into adulthood. If your kitty is happy to be with you, you'll probably notice them kneading you with their claws.
8. They Lift Up Their Tail When They Approach You

When a cat lifts up their tail, it's basically a nonverbal greeting. If your cat does this when approaching you, they are telling you that they're happy to see you!
9. They Look at You and Blink Slowly

It might just seem like a sleepy blink to us, but there's a reason this action is frequently referred to as the "cat kiss." When cats lock eyes and give each other a slow, relaxed blink, it's the feline equivalent of a peaceful handshake. Any cat that does this to you is hoping to be your friend.
10. They Follow You

Most cats don't follow you around the house like a dog might, but if yours jumps into bed with you or scratches at the bathroom door to join you as you do your business, it's a sign that they want to be closer to you. And for such an independent animal, that's a pretty big indicator of love!
11. They Wait for You to Come Home

As soon as my cat hears my car coming up the driveway, he runs up to the window and waits for me to come inside. If you frequently come home to a meowing cat at your door or window, chances are good that your kitty just couldn't wait to see you again!
12. They Play with You

A stressed cat is not a playful cat, so if yours trusts you enough to let loose and have a little fun with you, it's proof that your kitty adores you as much as you adore them!
