Senior dogs and pets should never be discounted or abandoned simply for the fact they may require extra care and attention. Just because they're old, it doesn’t mean that they’re still not full of love and life.
This video posted by KHOU 11 shows some upsetting footage of Dax, a brown Weimaraner, looking lost and defeated as he was dropped off at an animal shelter due to his old age. The loyal 20-year-old dog can be seen lying on a pet bed as he searches for a familiar face that he’s simply not going to find.
According to Newweek, Dax was surrendered to Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Florida after being with a family for 20 years.
In a video posted to the organization’s TikTok, Big Dog Ranch Rescue shared their thoughts: “It is unfathomable to think about a loyal loving 20-year-old senior dog, at the end of his life span, given up and left confused and heartbroken.”
According to the news outlet, Big Dog Ranch Rescue was initially notified about Dax by Walton County Sheriff’s Animal Services in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. It was understood that due to Dax’s advanced age and health conditions, he wouldn’t survive in a typical animal shelter.

With the help of the viral video on social media garnering a ton of support and views, and after spending some time in foster care, Dax was eventually adopted by a family where he went to live happily with several pet siblings.
