My household was not one of those Disney homes. I don't remember watching the princess movies with friends, and when we went to Disney World, we wanted nothing to do with the bobble-headed characters creeping throughout the park. It was really all about the rides and the Florida sunshine!
I do, however, have one very fond Disney memory. Every Christmas, my parents would pop the same VHS into the VCR for my older brother and me. We'd sit on the green carpet of the living room, wearing our Hannah Anderson striped pajamas, maybe munching on some chocolate chip cookies. When the picture turned bright on the screen, there was Mickey Mouse sitting at a grand piano, playing a jaunty Christmas song.
The tape rolled on to show us the whole crew decking the halls and singing all the best Christmas Carols. The images are forever painted onto my memory, and that was when cartoons were still totally hand-drawn and genuinely beautiful. Looking back on this video now, I can't help but laugh along with Daffy Duck and the crew, and to smile the whole way through.
There are so many great songs to chose from, but 'Sleigh Ride' is just so cheery, it's impossible to pass up!
Do you have a Christmas memory like this? Something that simply fills you with youthful joy?
