This Crafter Built A Table From Scratch For His Barbecue Cooker

Summer is coming to an end, but that certainly doesn't mean summer-like activities have to come to a halt!

Many DIY projects that we've seen this summer have shown us how to craft fun supplies and creations for outdoor events, like this backyard smokehouse made from little more than a few cinder blocks and some wood.

I'm always excited to see what some adventurous and creative builders have made at home for their barbecues. That's why I was thrilled when I came across this incredible grill!

Imgur user hman7979 owns a "Big Green Egg" — also dubbed the "ultimate barbecue cooker." But when he set out to build a customized table for his cooker, he put an absolutely incredible twist to it.

Read on to see the process of this woodworking project, and let us know what you think about this creative "barbecue table" in the comments below!

To build his stunning barbecue station, Imgur user hman7979 started with a basic pine frame. He chose pinewood since he wanted to make this project as cost-effective as possible.

Next, he found some old old wine boxes, and decided to put them to good use...

...by turning them into soft-close drawers underneath the table!

He used one of the leftover drawers to craft a pull-out surface on the side of the table, perfect for preparing food.

Next, he bought a rough-cut granite slab to customize a surface for the tabletop.

The granite was cut to size, then positioned neatly on the surface. It gave off a nice "leather" look to the table.

Next, it was time to craft the opening for his Big Green Egg.

He stopped once in a while to step back and admire his work.

The next step was to stain, sand, scrape, and paint the table to achieve a nicely faded, rustic look.

Several coats of satin Spar Urethane were applied to the surface before any of the hardware was installed.

Hooks, drawer pulls, and even a wall-mounted bottle opener were added!

Here's another look at the pull-out work/table surface, all sanded down, stained, and ready for use.

We loved how the finished product didn't end up looking pretentious or over-the-top. It had clean, simple lines and looked beautifully rustic.
