9-Year-Old Takes The Wheel When Mom Has Seizure In Car

Brenda Welch and her 9-year-old son Ethan were driving home from school. Mom had just picked up Ethan after he got into an accident where he split his chin and needed stitches. Right after saving her son, little did Brenda know that he was about to save her.

While they were driving, Brenda had a seizure. Ethan didn't panic. Instead, he grabbed hold of the wheel.

"I was driving with my foot while I pulled her foot over my head," said Ethan. "Then when I got doing that, I started driving again." Although he was driving around 80 mph, the young one was trying to protect his mom. (Hey, if a pug can ride a motorcycle, then we shouldn't be so shocked a kid can drive a car.) Ethan lifted his mother's foot off the gas pedal. That's when a volunteer firefighter, Mark Rogers, who was driving behind them, saw the car start to swerve.

"He went right through a parking lot and down through and across the grass," said Mark. Ethan slowed down and let the car come to a stop. Mark pulled over and helped the pair. If it weren't for Ethan taking control of the situation, things could have turned out far worse.

"When it comes to them protecting you, it's amazing to know that they can," said Brenda.

"I think he's a hero," said Mark — strong words coming from a firefighter!
