When faced with a life-changing medical diagnosis, there is no way of knowing how anyone will handle it.
When you're born with abilities that are later taken from you, it can be devastating.
Especially if it's out of nowhere, and without a reasonable explanation.
And that situation is exactly what happened to Marvin Pearson.
He was 8 years old when his hearing and vision started drifting away. He may have been too young to understand, and some of his teachers thought he was too young to even believe, but he realized it while trying to read a dictionary. He couldn't see the way he was supposed to, and it ended up being much more than a need for glasses.
Now a high school student, Pearson is completely blind and deaf.
He has a cochlear implant to help him hear, but on his own, his abilities to see and hear are gone.
The fact that this happened to him is sad, but he did not let it get him down.
He decided to continue on with his life, keep his fun personality, and grow into an athlete.
Now, Pearson is one of the quarterbacks for his varsity football team, showing everyone a disability will not prevent him from anything. He is without a doubt an inspiration.
Marvin Pearson might be blind and deaf, but he's an absolute ray of sunshine on Ellen's show.
