Mono Mono Twins Caught Holding Hands At Birth Celebrate Their 1st Birthday

When Sarah and Bill Thistlethwaite found out they were pregnant with twins, they knew that their whole life together was going to change. But when they found out that their two little girls were Monoamniotic, their hearts sank.

Monoamniotic, or mono mono twins are twins that share the same amniotic sac, and they're at risk for many complications during pregnancy. Mono mono twins share the same placenta, but they each have their own umbilical cords, which makes it much more likely that the babies will get tangled in their cords. These types of twins are always born premature, as the danger of cord compression and tangling, along with the risk of twin-to-twin transfusion gets higher as the babies get bigger.

So, as you can imagine, the day the Thistlethwaites welcomed their two baby girls, Jillian and Jenna, into the world, they were both already overjoyed.

Then, they all looked at one of the pictures of their first moments in this world.

The photo from May 9th of 2014 went viral, and the twins became an instant sensation. A year later? This family couldn't be happier, but it has nothing to do with all of the attention they got from this one amazing picture.

Every birth is a miracle, but the fact that these two little girls were at a higher risk than most, and they came out the way they did is truly something extra special.
