Shelley was only 24 weeks pregnant when she was rushed to the hospital complaining of severe back pain.

The doctors quickly discovered that she was fully dilated and would have to give birth four months early. Shelley told the Daily Mail, "I was in complete shock. Dean and I could only look at each other in utter disbelief."

"The baby wasn't due for another 16 weeks but we were told it was on its way whether we were ready or not." Lenny Harrison was just one pound when he was born in Epsom Hospital in Surrey in the United Kingdom.

He was immediately placed in intensive care and, after several hours, he suffered a heart attack. Luckily he pulled through. His mother said, "All I wanted was to cuddle my little boy but it was hours before I got to see him again."

Dean told the Daily Mail, "It sounds awful, but when Lenny was born we were so scared that we couldn't even look at him at first. Knowing he was premature I was worried that he might still look like a fetus."

"When I did allow myself a peek, I could see he was extremely tiny and his skin was transparent. He was covered in white furry hair."

Surrounded by tubes and wires, Lenny struggled to survive. His parents were told to prepare themselves for the absolute worst.

They decided to document his small, precious life by photographing him every day. Shelley said, "Dean created a diary to show how he was improving and to help us keep positive during the dark times."

"He put the photographs on social media sites to update our family and friends on how he was doing and we had amazing support."

Slowly but surely, Lenny began to gain strength and size. Doctors worked furiously with Lenny, who underwent numerous procedures, including nine blood transfusions and laser eye surgery.

When he was finally 6 weeks old, the doctors declared Lenny stable enough to be hugged by his parents. Shelley said, "It's a moment we will never forget. It was a real mixture of emotions."

"I remember crying and thinking I would never stop! After all that time apart it was very overwhelming to finally have him in my arms."

100 days after his birth, a miracle occurred. Doctors told Shelley and Dean that they could finally take Lenny home.

Dean told the Daily Mail, "Taking him home was a fantastic milestone we thought we might never see. He's a little fighter but we know Lenny wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the fantastic work of the doctors and nurses and we can't thank them enough."
Shelley said, "A year on, Lenny is an amazingly happy little boy which is fantastic considering what he's been through. He's made our life complete and we thank God everyday for how well he's doing." Lenny proves that miracles truly do come in small packa
