I am a huge sucker for pretty much any award show, but the Oscars are definitely the cream of the crop. For as long as I can remember, I've watched the glamorous ceremony with so much excitement that you'd think I was in the running for one of the iconic golden trophies. While that's never really been the case (yet!), I do always have someone I'm rooting for, of course. But even if their name isn't the one written in the envelope, I can't help but applaud the winner as they accept the accolade. It's just impossible for me to not get swept away in all the emotion!
And though I've never stepped foot on a movie set, I've definitely thought about all the people I would thank if I ever won the award. I like to practice that perfect mix of humble yet gracious demeanor stars use as they list name after name before being played off by the music. In reality, I would probably be a lot more like this adorable moment from Patty Duke in 1963.
Before starring in her own sitcom, the talented young actress made a name for herself portraying the blind and deaf Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Originating the role on Broadway before the film, the 13-year-old stunned audiences with her beautiful performance. Winning the Academy Award for the role at 16 made her one of the youngest entertainers at the time to accept such the honor.
Introduced by Frank Sinatra and presented by West Side Story actor and dancer George Chakiris, Duke keeps her gratitude short and sweet!
