When a woman is pregnant, usually the only hope is to give birth to a healthy child.
And the family you're about to see thought that they had achieved that one hope.
Paul and Nancy Burke gave birth to three beautiful and seemingly healthy girls.
Their oldest daughter Jillian went six years without any health problems, but after feeling ill they took her to a doctor. Little did they know that the doctors wouldn't have an answer for three whole years, and when they did? It wasn't good news.
She was diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome type C. This is the rarest form of a genetic disease and is so uncommon, it only affects around 100 people in the entire world.
This disease destroys a person's central nervous system, with physical and mental changes that are unbelievably devastating. They soon found out that their two other daughters, Lindsey and Kelsey, had it too.
But, even with all of this devastation, this family stays supportive and happy together. These three girls have amazing parents who have devoted their lives to taking care of them. And these three girls share a bond that no one in the world can understand.
They may have watched their daughters' personalities slip away from them. But, they are still there with their sweet demeanor, they are still loving, caring girls. With the kisses and hugs they share and the simple smiles they exchange, you can tell that these girls are still amazing children. The glimmer of hope shines through with this family's love taking over their disease.
Although their parents know that there is no cure, their daughters already beat their expected survival by five years. Who knows what could happen within the next few?
