With the constantly rising cost of tuition for college students everywhere, the last thing many students want is to pay thousands of dollars to live in a dorm the size of a walk-in closet.
Because of this, many people are turning to alternative living styles, like the family who turned an old school bus into a tiny house.
But when this DIY-er was asked by his sister to turn an old Chevy Astro into her own dorm room on wheels, he was excited to take on the challenge — and I was excited to see the results!
For this unique tiny home, she only had a few simple requests: a bed, storage, and a place to sit with her computer. With a budget of $200 and a desire to pitch in, together they fulfilled her vision.

To create this money-saving dorm room on wheels, they started off with a blank canvas: a Chevy Astro van.
Once all the seats had been removed, they got to work.
The crafty siblings started by measuring out and cutting the bed.
Then they began work on the mattress: They decided to use two sheets of foam stacked on top of each other.
Underneath the bed, they added shelves for her storage bins.
Their pup seemed to approve of their construction.
Storage underneath the mattress could also be accessed from the back of the van via hinged doors.
With another sheet of plywood fitted to the inside of the van, they added desk space — an essential addition for any hard-working college student.
With the structure of the bed and the desk installed, she still has lots of comfortable living space.
On top of the desk, they installed a bookshelf with a no-slip bottom to keep items from sliding while the van is in motion.
For showers and bathroom breaks, she planned to use her student ID to access the campus facilities, mere minutes from her van dorm.
Finishing details like a comforter make the space cozy and warm.
Blackout curtains behind the driver's seat and covered windows prevent others from peeping in, keeping her nice and safe.
