12 Movies Generating Buzz To Watch This Spring

Watching spring movie releases may seem a little strange this season. And that's because, most of us will be watching from home. While many film studios have chosen to offer their movies streaming for safety, it doesn't mean that you can't get excited over the most anticipated 2021 releases. Upcoming releases may continue to be streaming for the foreseeable future, so it's something every household should check out.

Movies might not seem as exciting if you really enjoy going to the movie theater. That's why you should try your hardest to make these spring movies as enjoyable as possible. Pop some popcorn if you're watching a 2021 spring movie that's suitable for kids. If you're watching movies solo, consider rolling a big screen TV into your bedroom and turning off the lights, much like you would at a movie theater (except, in this arrangement, you'll be far more comfortable.)

Here's another good thing about upcoming movies — you can plan ahead. Knowing that they're streaming, you can put some nights on the calendar that, unlike many of your other plans, won't end up getting canceled.

Here are 12 of the most anticipated movie releases this season.

1. 'Zack Snyder's Justice League'

You might be saying to yourself, "This movie already come out." And, you're right — well, sort of. This is the official director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League. It was never presented this way, as Zack Snyder notably left the film during its postproduction.

Uncredited, Joss Whedon completed the film after Zack Snyder opted to spend more time with his family. Many fans were wondering what Zack's version would have looked like, as it was said to be very different from Whedon's.

That's why Justice League is one of the most anticipated spring 2021 releases. Even for fans who didn't mind the original version, it's always good to see someone else's take on a story. Zack Snyder's Justice League is set to be released on March 18 on HBO Max. And, be prepared — it's over four hours long.

2. 'Coming 2 America'

Reboots and sequels are often controversial, but this one might actually be good. Back in 1988, the movie Coming To America was released. There have been frequent talks of a sequel, and it's finally on the list as one of the spring 2021 movie upcoming releases.

Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall are coming back to the film, and they're bringing a pretty recognizable cast with them, including Saturday Night Live alums Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan.

Coming 2 America is also making a ton of headlines based on how they're choosing to release it. On March 5, the movie will be available on Amazon Prime. But the big release will actually happen in Queens, New York, at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Around 200 cars will be pulling up to watch this upcoming movie release for the first time in a safe yet fun way.

3. 'Godzilla Vs. Kong'

Godzilla Vs Kong would be another movie that'd benefit from a big-screen debut. Sure, Godzilla is always fun to watch at home. But Godzilla and King Kong battling it out deserves a big screen. So if you're planning on investing in a new, larger television, you might want to do so before March 31.

The movie will be streaming on HBO Max starting that day.

4. 'Black Widow'

Based on the strangeness of 2020, fans have been waiting a long time for the movie release of Black Widow. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour, Black Widow was initially supposed to come out in May 2020. But, it was pushed back until the studio had a better idea of how it would handle movies after so many local theaters had to close.

The film has technically been in discussion since 2004. But with Scarlett Johansson as the lead, and the audience's response to her character in several other Marvel films, the studio decided that now was the best time to give her a movie. The film will be available to watch on May 7.

5. 'Cruella'

Can Emma Stone play a convincing Cruella? Based on the trailer, the answer is yes. Sure, you may have never cared to know the true backstory of Cruella de Vil, but it's still a fun peek into the villain's life. Any Disney fan will standing in line to see this movie.

Or not. This upcoming spring release will be getting a theatrical debut, but Disney+ has yet to announce any plans for a streaming version on its platform. It'd make a lot of sense, but the studio may end up making a call closer to the film's release date, which is May 28.

6. 'The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run'

Spongebob Squarepants is back, and better than ever. If you're looking for a great spring movie for the family, look no further than Paramount+. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run was reportedly already released internationally, but it'll be coming to the US on March 4. Fans of Spongebob's faithful pet snail Gary won't want to miss out, as the storyline is all about trying to find him.

7. 'Raya And The Last Dragon'

Looking for upcoming movie releases for kids? Raya And The Last Dragon is a great choice for a spring 2021 movie. Disney currently has plans to release it in theaters on March 5. But, knowing that's happening soon, it is also planning on releasing it to order on Disney+ with Premier Access. You should be able to watch it streaming on the same day.

So, what is Raya And The Last Dragon about? It focuses on warrior Raya (and her pet pill bug companion named Tuk Tuk) as they bravely search to try and find the last dragon around. Awkwafina and Sandra Oh lend their voices to the picture.

8. 'Free Guy'

Fans of Ryan Reynolds are anticipating his spring release Free Guy, an interesting adventure-comedy where Ryan's character realizes he's a background player in a video game. The trailer release initially came out in 2019. As expected, the film's release has been pushed back a bit.

But now it's on the calendar of movie upcoming releases for spring 2021, and those who've been waiting for it will finally get their chance. As you can tell by the trailer, it's a concept unlike most movies that involve good guys and bad guys. And, it's currently scheduled to be released in IMAX in the US on May 21.

9. 'Mortal Kombat'

On the topic of action movies, you don't want to forget about Mortal Kombat. Currently, Motal Kombat is scheduled to have both a theatrical release, along with an HBO Max release, on April 16.

You can tell that people are excited over this upcoming movie premiere, as its trailer reportedly broke records. The 2021 version of Mortal Kombat has become the most-watched red-band trailer in history. It'll be interesting to see if any other upcoming movie releases break its record.

10. 'Yes Day'

Jennifer Garner is reportedly a big fan of "Yes Day" — and, that's a day where she says yes to any challenge that she may have said no to earlier. Yes Day is all about taking risks and having fun. So, the movie with the same title — which happens to star Jennifer Garner — is bound to be wonderful.

The movie will be debuting on Netflix on March 12.

11. 'F9'

You got that right — the Fast and the Furious franchise keeps going. This movie has been pushed back a lot on the upcoming movie release calendar, and was initially expected to hit theaters in 2019. Now, that date will be May 28, 2021.

The movie features Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson. Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron will also be reprising their roles from earlier films. Helen's story with the franchise is actually quite amusing. Supposedly, she met Vin in a bar one day and asked for a part in the film franchise. If you have the star power of Helen Mirren, miracles do come true.

12. 'In The Heights'

OK, so technically In The Heights is set to be released in early June, but it still counts as a 2021 spring release in many people's eyes, especially since it's so highly anticipated. And, that's become nobody other than Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the songs and lyrics — so, fans of Hamilton are especially pumped.

In The Heights was based on a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. That book was also a Broadway play. That means that many people are familiar with the story, and can't wait to see the adaptation on the big screen. Good news for fans who want to avoid the theater — this movie will also be streaming on HBO Max.
