Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, testified in court about his experience and emotions surrounding a bout with mono, commonly known as the "kissing disease" in 2002. He addresses how he felt "ashamed" when this made headlines.
Prince Harry appeared in court against Mirror Group Newspapers, and it was noted that he stated, “This impact on me was huge,” and “not sure how anyone out of my immediate family knew about it.” Harry even claims that at the time, his whole school somehow knew about it, and he was miserable because he became a laughingstock.
The prince has accused Mirror Group Newspapers, the publisher behind the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Daily Express, of hacking his phone for information it wanted.
In the statement he made, he stated, “Tabloids would routinely publish articles about me that were often wrong but interspersed with snippets of truth, which I now think were most likely gleaned from voicemail interception and/or unlawful information gathering.”
Andrew Green, Mirror Group Newspapers company attorney, said that the facts that were gathered about Harry were “disclosed by or on behalf of royal households or members of the royal family.”
Mirror Group Newspapers did admit though that in 2004, it hired a private investigator to illegally gather information about Harry when he was out at a nightclub in London.
Another moment that Prince Harry claims to have been distraught about is when a pair of articles came out in 2002 accusing him of doing drugs with his friends. He stated, “The fact that the defendant’s journalists were trying to drag some of my friends into this and name and shame them sickens me.”

Harry then brings up the ongoing rumor that has been published before, about how James Hewitt is Harry’s real father and not King Charles III. He claims that this accusation has caused him great pain over the years.
He stated, “Stories such as this felt very damaging and very real to me. They were hurtful, mean, and cruel. I was always left questioning the motives behind the stories.”
