Kensington Palace Shuts Down Kate Middleton Health Rumors In Official Statement

It’s not easy being a parent and living life in the public eye. When you are a member of the British royal family, at least the job comes with perks like tiaras. There has been much speculation about the Princess of Wales’ health in recent days. Kensington Palace decided to address these rumors head on.

On January 16, 2024, Kate Middleton underwent a planned abdominal surgery. Kate relayed in a statement that she wants the specifics to remain private. It was stated she would not be back to work until after Easter. On Tuesday, February 27, Prince William dropped out of attending his godfather’s memorial service. This caused many to gossip that Kate might not be doing well or even that their marriage was in trouble.

Kensington Palace felt the need to address some of these rumors. It stated that Kate is “doing well” and that the public should not worry. "We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant,” a spokesperson stated.

After her surgery Kate spent 13 days in the hospital. She returned home to Windsor on January 29. In February, she traveled to Anmer Hall, her family’s residence on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. The kids were on a school break and the family was able to spend some quality time together. Prince William took some time off to care for his wife but has since returned to royal duties.

One source close to the situation believes Kate is setting an important example for others facing similar situations. “It is sensible to take the time,” they mused. “That is a great example to the rest of us, as you’re often told to get back to work as soon as possible, which can be damaging. It is good for all of us to see her taking the time, recovering properly and then coming back. We can all learn from that."
