Mom Visits Cemeteries For Baby Name Inspiration: ‘People Might Find It Creepy’

There is no right or wrong way to go about naming a baby. Parents can look for inspiration in a variety of different places. One mom took to TikTok to explain the surprising place she is searching for a name for her unborn baby girl.

Haley Hodge decided to visit a cemetery for name inspiration. She made it a family affair reading the headstones. Her quirky approach soon went viral on social media.

Haley is expecting and already a mother of three. She shares Finley, 10, Crew 3, and Banks, 16 months, with husband Rivers Hodge. They can’t wait for the arrival of their daughter.

Haley knows some people might not understand her actions and attempted to explain them to Today. “I know some people might find it creepy, but my mother was a history buff and when we were growing up, she would take us on field trips to cemeteries,” she stated. “You can learn so much about cultural aspects of the past."

Haley and her family chose Smithville Burying Ground in Southport, North Carolina, for their adventure. The outing was fruitful. The new baby girl names that are being considered because of it include Galloway and Salem.

Many took to the comments section to share their approval.

“I love this!” wrote one user. “And it’s absolutely no different then looking at a book of names or getting a name from a movie/show. and it’s a great way to bring back the older generation names!”

Some worried about being pregnant at a cemetery. There is a superstition rooted in the Jewish tradition that while you are creating life, you should avoid anything to do with death.
