What to Know
Is it normal to call the president “daddy?” Apparently, the White House thinks so. Calling President Donald Trump “daddy” is nothing new for Republicans, but a recent holiday greeting shared by the White House disgusted people nonetheless. On December 3, the White House shared a holiday greeting with its social media followers. The post featured an illustrated image of Trump doing a thumbs-up while wearing a Santa hat in front of White House. The text on the image read, “Daddy’s Home.”
Understandably, people had lots of thoughts about this. There are many layers to it. First, a lot of people have an issue with the concept of idolizing politicians. But also, many feel that calling Trump “daddy” is just “creepy,” “cringe,” and “weird” overall.
There are a multitude of reasons why people find it ‘creepy.’
And people didn’t hesitate to share their thoughts in the comments. “A politician should never be your daddy,” one person argued. “Politicians are employees of the people.” Someone else wrote that they already have a dad, and they don’t think of the president as their “daddy” — because why is that not weird? “Imagine idolizing a president and calling him ‘daddy’ 🤮 have a father already thanks,” they wrote.
A third critic accused MAGA of having a “disgusting daddy fetish,” while another person simply wrote, “I am gonna throw up.”
Several others mentioned the sexual misconduct allegations against Trump, and also pointed to his questionable friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. To them, the accusations make the whole “daddy” thing even more disturbing. “…might want to lay off the daddy,” one person suggested.
Others seemed baffled, with someone else commenting, “You guys know this is weird, right???!!!”
People are begging the White House to get a more ‘professional’ social media manager.
Given that the post came from the White House’s official account, people found it especially embarrassing. “Someone put a competent adult back in charge of this account,” a critic advised. Because of the post (among other things), people also called the Trump administration the “most embarrassing” and “most unprofessional” administration ever.
Someone commented, “Absolutely disgusting🤮🤮🤮🤮. I have a father who is not a creepy old man like Trump! Such an embarrassment to this country! 😡🤮😡🤮” Others expressed concerns about how these kinds of posts look to the rest of the world. “Other countries are laughing up a storm at Americans,” one of them hypothesized.
And sure, maybe it’s just rage bait meant to garner attention, but even if that’s the case, some people failed to understand why the Trump admin thinks it’s OK. One person on Instagram noted that they’re “so confused as to why the White House page needs to post rage bait.”
Clearly, it was really no laughing matter at all to some, but several people joked that “granddad” might be a more appropriate title than “daddy.”
Of course, there were also people who saw no issue, praised Trump, commented “Merry Christmas,” and even referred to Trump as “daddy.”
