Melania Trump Is ‘Done Staying Quiet’ & The White House Is Scared

In many ways, First Lady Melania Trump used to stay out of the spotlight and keep to herself during President Donald Trump’s first term. This time around, she has surprised people even more by embracing public life and speaking up more. Years ago, people weren’t sure how much Melania really cared about her husband’s role (or her husband, for that matter). But now, she has taken to defending him and praising him more often (which Trump critics obviously don’t love).

And, of course, she even starred in a documentary about her role as First Lady (not that it was the most revealing film ever—so maybe Melania still values her privacy quite a bit). What surprised people the most, however, was her recent statement about Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this month, she had a rare public statement, seemingly out of the blue.

Her statement seemed very abrupt, especially because her husband had largely been managing to avoid Epstein accusations amid the controversy surrounding his war in Iran. Apparently, her husband didn’t even know what his wife was going to say.

According to a report from CNN, Melania allegedly has the tendency to fixate on the stories and rumors about her. So, although she has stayed out of the spotlight at times, she seemingly keeps up on what people are saying about her.

A former staffer told CNN, “She’d see things that I had no idea about and tell me something was ‘everywhere’ and send me links to websites I didn’t even know existed. It was not ‘everywhere.'” Interestingly, it seems like Melania really does care about the rumors and criticism, even though her controversial “I really don’t care, do U?” jacket was meant to suggest otherwise.

Although she has stood by her husband, it’s also possible that she’s irritated.

The fact that Melania has been speaking up more lately has actually made some Trump critics like her less—because she is very clearly sticking up for her husband. In March, Melania called the president a “unifier” who is “doing a fantastic job,” even though he’s receiving “a lot of pushback.”

She also tried to say that her husband “would like to have a country where all of the people can walk down the street and not be harassed or murdered or women raped.” After the comments went viral, critics called her an “enabler.”

But a recent report from Rob Shuter’s Substack suggests that that might be changing. Now, it seems, Melania might be more focused on doing what she wants, regardless of what other people think.

An insider said “she doesn’t trust anyone, including her husband.”

The report also suggested that the demolition of the White House East Wing might have something to do with it. Historically, it has served as the headquarters for first ladies. Per CNN, author Kate Andersen Brower said, “Watching the demolition is the physical embodiment of watching the first lady’s role become smaller and smaller.” Melania has not publicly commented on the topic, but an insider told Shuter that the decision has been weighing on her.

“At first, she didn’t care,” the source told Shuter. “Now she sees it as a sign of how little they value her.” Apparently, she’s “done staying quiet,” which might explain her recent statement about Epstein.

And to some people, Melania’s current approach is actually unsettling. “They’re scared of her,” the insider claimed. “She’s a loose cannon — no one knows what she’ll do next.”
