Former Superman Dean Cain Called Out For Mocking The New Supergirl’s Appearance Online

For some reason, a former Superman actor recently felt compelled to make fun of Supergirl star Milly Alcock. Fans of the superhero were pretty disappointed to see an actor who portrayed a character they love engaging in this “disgusting” behavior on social media.

Actor Dean Cain, who portrayed Superman on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the 1990s, recently reacted to a post that compared Milly, 26, to Land of the Lost character Cha-Ka. While the 59-year-old appeared to find the comparison hilarious and accurate (and worth publicly reacting to), fans were not amused.

Dean wrote that he “laughed” at the offensive comparison.

It all started when the actor shared his reaction to another Supergirl post. The original post read, “Wait… if Supergirl’s skin is bulletproof, how does she have ear piercings?” Dean re-shared it and added the 🤔 emoji, suggesting that he has the same question about the upcoming film.

Then, someone replied to his post with the Cha-Ka comparison. They included a photo of the character and wrote, “And why does she look like this guy?”

Of course, Dean didn’t have to engage with this rude comment at all. But he decided to let everyone know that he found it funny. “Dang it… I laughed 😅” he wrote in response.

People found it extremely disrespectful and accused Dean of “grasping at relevance.”

Fans could not understand why he would criticize a young actor like this. “I enjoyed your superman role,” one person wrote in response on X. “I grew up with it. I won’t criticize your acting but this isn’t it Dean. You were loved by hundreds of thousands around the world, she’s a young kid getting into the business, show her the love they showed you.”

“you were a Superman actor who also faced the same kind of problems she had,” someone else commented. “So the fact you’re acting and engaging with this behavior against your own is disgusting.”

Another person who previously enjoyed watching Dean portray Superman added, “I can’t believe I grew up watching this guy play Superman. To see him serve and feed on Internet hate towards another person especially a young woman makes me really sad.”

Others called Dean a bully. “Some ‘Superman’ you turned out to be, huh?” a commenter wrote. One person argued that the fact that Dean would “laugh at mean spirited comments about a lovely young woman” makes it clear that he’s actually a “sad man.”

And some people’s comments were much harsher.

“What a weird, miserable life you must lead,” one critic concluded. Another Superman fan called him “a disgrace to the Superman legacy.” They wrote, “You’re an actor who understands the struggle and pain of navigating through the industry and getting stick for the smallest of things. Yet you choose to make fun of a woman, who hasn’t done anything wrong, simply for laughs and giggles?”

Based on the comments, many others agreed. “How can any fan page of yours support this behavior from you?” another fan commented. “This is Milly’s first major movie role. She’s 26 years old and you’re resorting to laughing at her looks. It’s sadly getting harder and harder to support your Superman.”

Some fans who used to defend him said they could no longer do so after seeing this. “Every time you weren’t invited to anything regarding Superman, I felt you were being disrespected and felt sad for you,” someone wrote. “Not anymore, apparently you’re a bullying d—.”

Dean responded to some of the comments.

In response to someone who argued that he was once “loved” by Superman fans, Dean wrote back saying, “They called me Sushi Man.” Still, people failed to understand why Dean would want to stoop to their level and make fun of another young actor. “She’s not them,” the fan wrote back. “Be better than them, man.”

Another commenter wrote that Milly “isn’t ugly.” (Why do these men feel so comfortable evaluating Milly’s appearance like this anyway? Who asked them?) In response, Dean said, “I never said she was ugly –“

Tons of critics told him to “stop lying,” because they saw the way he amplified and laughed at an offensive “joke” about Milly’s appearance. “Don’t try and sugarcoat it,” someone responded. “You knew the ‘joke’ of the pic you responded to was to claim she’s ugly. And now you are trying to deflect from it.”
