It’s really no surprise that Kathy Griffin is often cracking jokes with her friends. However, one joke in particular is really starting to irritate her friend Sharon Stone. During a recent interview, Kathy described the prank that has gotten on Sharon’s nerves.
The comedian likes to add Sharon to random group chats. Speaking to Us Weekly, Kathy said, “One of the things I do to torture [Sharon] is adding her to random text chains with people she doesn’t know.” At the time of the interview, Sharon was in four groups with total strangers — all because her friend Kathy thought it would be funny to add her.
“I have her on four text chains now, and she keeps side-texting me and [says], ‘I’m going to f—ing kill you,'” Kathy told the publication. She added that the actress keeps telling her to “stop adding my phone number to people I’m never going to meet.”
In November 2024, Kathy also spoke about this particular prank while on Jimmy Kimmel Live. While telling a story about a group chat she started, she remembered that she decided to add Sharon to random chats for a specific reason. “My new favorite hobby is that every time Sharon Stone blows me off for a dinner date, I add her to a random text chain,” Kathy explained to Jimmy. “And Jimmy, she, like, wants to kill me.”
Jimmy laughed. He said he liked the idea and might even use it himself. Kathy explained that the group chats she added Sharon to have more than 15 people in them. She also used Sharon’s personal number, rather than her office number.
Although the prank might seem petty, Kathy and Sharon clearly have a great friendship. When Kathy was dealing with her split from her ex-husband Randy Bick, Sharon helped her cope.

In March 2024, Kathy joked about giving Sharon money for her birthday. “Yep, I gave Sharon Stone a bag of money for her birthday,” she captioned the Instagram post. “I give the BEST gifts.”
