On May 1, 2023, Christine Baumgartner, wife of actor Kevin Costner, filed for divorce. Many reported that Kevin did not want this, nor did he see it coming. Now new details about what motivated Christine are coming to light.
People magazine is reporting that Christine was not happy about Kevin’s demanding work schedule, which would often take him away from important family life. This comes as some have been speculating about possible infidelity on Kevin’s part, which his side has adamantly denied. It is almost certain that this story is far from over.
A source close to the family explained that Kevin "knew" Christine was "unhappy" but perhaps not how far she was willing to go to seek change.
"Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home. During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her," the source explained.
Perhaps Christine believed there was hope for change with Kevin’s hit show Yellowstone ending with season five. Kevin then decided to take on another giant project.
"Christine doesn't want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn't happy about it," the source explained.

A second source in the industry admits that "at times, his career has taken precedence over his home life. Kevin hasn't been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand." This has come at a cost.
"All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn't look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home," they concluded.
