Kirsten Storms is thankful for her supportive and concerned fans amid her absence from General Hospital and some challenges in her personal life; however, she’s also concerned about what her 12-year-old daughter, Harper, might see as rumors continue to spread. In a recent update she shared with her fans, she asked people to remember that she and her ex-husband, Brandon Barash, share a daughter who is old enough to see comments and rumors about her parents online.
Kirsten has portrayed Maxie on General Hospital since 2005, but has not appeared on the show in recent months. About a year ago, she moved to Tennessee and announced that she would be taking a temporary break from the show, but the hiatus lasted a bit longer than expected. She later revealed that she had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and had plans to undergo surgery.
Kirsten has also taken to social media to share updates about an alleged home break-in. Meanwhile, Brandon obtained an emergency restraining order against Kirsten earlier this year, claiming that she was dealing with a “mental health crisis” and “experiencing delusions and hallucinations.”
Recently, Kirsten appeared to address this situation.
However, she described it as a conflict between exes and seemed hopeful that they would work things out. In an Instagram post shared on July 19, Kirsten wrote, “I will briefly acknowledge that there is an ongoing situation with Brandon that will be getting sorted out (soon hopefully). I would appreciate (and encourage) for people on here not to worry about me, or think there is something larger going on, other than 2 ex-spouses dealing with a ‘disagreement’, that WILL be resolved.”
She explained that she doesn’t feel compelled to air her personal drama publicly. “I’m not the type of person to come on here and discuss the details of something this personal (or offensive to who I am), however before you guys starting commenting on this, please remember that we are people who are divorced and have a child,” she continued.
The rumors and speculation that have emerged after her ex-husband’s restraining order are concerning to her because of how they might impact Harper. “I appreciate the supportive comments, but now that my daughter is of the age where she will Google her name while riding the bus to school, I’m asking that the speculation on this issue please stop,” she requested.
She reiterated that her daughter is her priority.
In her previous update in June, she wrote that her daughter is her “entire life” and her “first priority.” When writing her most recent post, she reflected on how having her daughter changed her perspective.
“I had Harper, and how I viewed every single thing in life shifted,” she wrote. “I swear I’m not going to continue to bring up my medical situation (I’ll make jokes and it will be awkward), but until I began to understand how precious time is and how what we prioritize becomes ALL we have, there was never a thought that my life would ever change.”
These shifts in her perspective have impacted the way she thinks about her acting career.
A lot of people have been wondering about whether Kirsten is planning on returning to General Hospital. In June, she suggested that she was hesitant to return to Los Angeles and to work.
This time, she reflected more on how her acting career was not something she chose for herself, given that she started acting as a child. While she’s “grateful” for what she’s achieved in her career and also proud of herself for it, she also acknowledged that she started working in the entertainment industry when she was still in elementary school.
“My life in California (and work there) was chosen for me at a young age,” she wrote. “…I’m proud of myself for handling the majority of that on my own…but that life became the ONLY thing I knew how to do. Or thought I was capable of.”
Kirsten received lots of supportive comments from fans who miss seeing her on the show, but also understand why her priorities have shifted. Above all else, they just want her to be happy, safe, and healthy.
