An Arkansas man was stopped by TSA officers at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, when his carry-on bag caused an alarm to go off. When the TSA officers looked through the bag, they reportedly found out that a diaper triggered the alarm.
Within his carry-on, the TSA officers found 17 bullets "artfully concealed inside the otherwise clean disposable baby diaper," according to a TSA news release. "Apparently this guy needs a bullet-proof plan for packing his carry-on bag before heading to the airport for his next flight," the news release stated.
On X, formerly Twitter, TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein shared photos of the diaper and the 17 9mm bullets on a metal counter. The man claimed that he didn't know why the diaper was in his bag. Later, he said his girlfriend must've been the one to put the bullet-filled diaper in his carry-on.
The man was cited with unlawful possession of ammunition. In response to the TSA's tweet about the man needing a "bullet-proof plan" for his "next flight," one person wrote, "I would hope there’s not going to BE a next flight. He’s not in trouble?"
"Now that's really a loaded diaper…" another person wrote.

The man's name was not revealed. The TSA also did not state whether the man had a weapon with him.
According to the TSA's website, travelers can travel with ammunition in their checked baggage. It is not allowed in carry-on baggage. There are also guidelines for how ammunition is to be packed (i.e. not within a diaper). Additionally, ammunition should be declared at check-in.
