Tom Hanks’ Son Chet Says Kissing Kate Hudson Was ‘Best Moment of My Life’

Through the years, Tom Hanks‘ son Chet has made headlines in controversial ways. The actor, 34, has opened up about personal struggles, including addiction to alcohol and other substances, but has been doing incredibly well in recent years. In fact, Chet Hanks now stars alongside Kate Hudson in the Netflix series Running Point.

The show stars Kate as Isla Gordon, a Los Angeles executive who suddenly finds herself running her family business, a professional basketball franchise. Meanwhile, Chet portrays Travis Bugg, one of the players on the NBA team who is also an aspiring rapper. The son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson recently opened up about a romantic scene with Kate — and he made a bold declaration about kissing her in the process.

Chet Hanks dished on kissing Kate Hudson in ‘Running Point.’

In the series, Chet’s character Travis is a point guard for the (fictional) NBA team the Los Angeles Waves. Travis and Kate’s character, Isla, are at a restaurant when an almost-kiss happens. Except, Isla pulls away from the romantic gesture so quickly that she falls out of the booth.

“It was the best moment of my life,” Chet told TooFab in a March 22, 2025, article. “Why wouldn’t it be?”

He also opened up about working with Kate on set.

During his chat with TooFab, Chet admitted that being a lead actor on any given day of production “can be stressful” and is “a big responsibility.” Kate, however, “never lets it stress her out.”

“She’s super fun. She’s always super fun and outgoing and just a joy to be around,” Chet shared. “So that alone, I think, teaches you a lot, you know?”

Additionally, Chet spoke about the advice she gave him.

While filming Running Point, Chet said Kate offered “plenty” of advice to him.

“I pay attention to her,” he explained. “Not so much asking her questions, but just by following her example. By following her example of how to carry a show.”

He has a lot in common with his ‘Running Point’ character.

Because Chet has so much in common with his character, Travis, he didn’t have to do much to prepare for the role. (Except for brushing up on his basketball skills.)

“I just got out of bed, got dressed, got in my car, and drove to work. That’s it,” he joked.

At the end of Running Point season one, Travis went to rehab for substance abuse, which is something else Chet has experienced in real life.

Currently, Chet is more than three years sober.

Chet recently shared what his three-and-a-half years of sobriety means to him.

“Everything. Everything,” he told Us Weekly on March 22 at the Clarins ICONS event at The Academy Museum in Los Angeles. “If I wasn’t sober, none of these opportunities would even be possible.”

Additionally, Chet offered words of advice to those currently struggling with addiction.

“My advice is if you think you might have a problem, then you do have a problem,” he told the publication. “Because if you’re thinking about it, the chances are that you can make a change and you just need to stop thinking and just do it.”
