Trump Jokes About How Slim He Looks And Hints At Insecurity About His Weight

President Donald Trump has been known to comment on other people’s appearances quite frequently. Sometimes, this involves calling men muscular and attractive, and other times, he mocks people for being fat (including the “fat friend” he talks about regularly). Regardless, critics of the president find it quite shallow, offensive, and inappropriate. Besides, a lot of the critics have made the same argument: Who is Trump to judge?

Recently, though, Trump actually commented on his own weight. Technically, he bragged about looking slim, but he also hinted at feeling insecure about how he looks.

He held up an image of his White House ballroom and said it made him look skinny.

We all know he loves talking about his plans for his controversial ballroom. When speaking to reporters about the project, he held up a large mockup. Then, he joked about how holding the sign up made him look thinner in comparison. Apparently, he thinks people are going to start talking about how slim he looks now.

“I look so thin,” he said. “They’ll say, ‘Oh, he’s gotten so thin,’ because I’m holding this.” Trump also mentioned China’s president, Xi Jinping. “You don’t have to look at my waist,” he continued. “You can look at this. You saw enough of my waist along with President Xi in China.”

After meeting with the Chinese president, Trump unsurprisingly evaluated his appearance. “If you went to Hollywood and looked for a leader of China to play a role in a movie, he’s Central Casting,” he told Fox News. “You couldn’t find a guy like him. Even his physical features. He’s tall — very tall, especially for this country because they tend to be a little bit shorter.”

Trump has a history of making fat jokes about other people.

For example, he once said that Illinois governor JB Pritzker “ought to spend more time in the gym, actually.” A lot of people—including Pritzker himself—felt that was an interesting insult coming from him. “It takes one to know one on the weight question,” Pritzker said after Trump made the comment about his weight. “And the president, of course, himself, is not in good shape.”

Aside from that, the insult also came across as pretty immature. “I would say also that his personal attacks on me are just evidence of a guy who’s still living in fifth grade,” the governor added. “He’s the kind of bully that throws invectives at people — because he knows that what he’s saying is actually commentary on himself.” Oof. Trump is approaching 80, by the way.

Additionally, the president frequently talks about his “fat slob” friend.

Vice President JD Vance has said that he is not the “fat friend” in question. But every time Trump tells this story, his critics have questioned whether he’s actually talking about himself.

Amid concerns about Trump’s health and well-being, Trump administration officials such as Dr. Mehmet Oz have acted like Trump is generally healthy for his age. However, they have admitted that he is overweight and that his eating habits are questionable.

During a recent podcast appearance, Dr. Oz discussed Trump’s medical results. “His testosterone was great!” he said. “You know, his regular blood tests were great. The one problem was his weight, which he to this day gives me a hard time about.”
