On June 17, 2023, most of the British royal family gathered to celebrate Trooping the Colour. This annual ceremony celebrates the sovereign’s birthday. Nothing says birthday like a big parade made up of regiments of the Household Division.
One moment went viral from this celebration. The Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Charlotte had an exchange that many are speculating could have been a great-aunt scolding her niece. Others believe it was much more innocent than that. Prince Louis also entertained with his now signature facial expressions.
In the video, Princess Charlotte turns to ask Sophie a question. Sophie responds, and Charlotte looks away. Many think this was the princess getting corrected or disciplined.
“Love how Charlotte is getting told off here and to 'Sit down,'” speculated one Twitter user.
Others disagree.
“She’s not being told off or told to sit down,” wrote another user. “Suspect she’s asked a question a few times and been told 'It’s now.'”

A professional lip reader talked to the Daily Star about the incident. Jeremy Freeman claims that Princess Charlotte asked, “How long will it be.” Aunt Sophie responded, “I think it’s now.”
Prince Louis also kept things exciting by making silly faces. At one point, he even held his nose and frowned. Perhaps one of the horses was stinky.
